The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza has launched the two year project “New insight of American Art Collection” thanks to a research grant received from the Terra Foundation for American Art, an institution that supports innovative approaches to the study of American art from an international perspective.

From the later 1960s one of the most important contributions to have been made by the baron Thyssen-Bornemisza collecting was that of promoting and disseminating American Art in Europe. In the present day, since most part of his collection was purchased by the Spanish Government, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid stands out as a rare exception in Europe.

The museum has such an extensive display of all the traditional and modern American Art Schools that it has undoubtedly become an essential reference point for a study and knowledge of American Art in the context of western culture. The Modern Painting Department develops this two-year research project, to reveal a richer and more complex view of American art and culture
